چکیده

The Navy has identified the need for a system capable of simultaneously breaching obstacles and clearing mines, in-stride, from over the horizon, during an amphibious assault. In response to the obstacle-breaching concern, the Enhanced Bomb Effects for Obstacle Clearance program was started. The purpose of the NSWCDD/CSS Bomb Effects program is to study and identify the damage mechanisms of obstacles (on land and in water) subjected to multiple bomb detonations. This acquired knowledge will then provide the acquisition community with the information necessary to utilize the proper technology for development of an obstacle clearance system.

Effects of Textually-Enhanced Reading Tasks and Strategic Pre-Task Planning on Learning English Passive Voice

In the realm of second language acquisition (SLA), task-based language teaching (TBLT) and input enhancement (IE) have been the focus of a great number of studies. Stepping over obstacles: attention demands and aging.

Older adults have been shown to trip on obstacles despite taking precautions to step carefully. It has been demonstrated in dual-task walking that age-related decline in cognitive and attentional mechanisms can compromise postural management. This is yet to be substantiated during obstacle negotiation when walking. Forty-six healthy volunteers (aged 20-79 years) stepped over obstacles in their ...

People with stroke who fail an obstacle crossing task have a higher incidence of falls and utilize different gait patterns compared with people who pass the task.

BACKGROUND Obstacle crossing is impaired in people following stroke. It is not known whether people with stroke who fail an obstacle crossing task have more falls or whether the gait adjustments used to cross an obstacle differ from those used by people who pass the task. OBJECTIVE The purposes of this study were (1) to identify whether a group of people with stroke who failed an obstacle cro...

Postural Control in a Fall Risk Situation in the Elderly: Stepping Over an Obstacle Under Dual-Task Conditions

Avoiding and negotiating obstacles is a common cause of falling in the elderly. There is also evidence that walking under dual-task conditions, which requires a high level of attention, is associated with an elevated risk of falls in older adults. To better understand the role of dual-tasking in the disturbance of postural control when subjects are faced with obstacles, we used a simple quantif...

Transfer of motor performance in an obstacle avoidance task to different walking conditions.

The aim of this study was to examine whether subjects who have learned a skilled locomotor task can transfer the acquired performance to conditions involving either a change in the external coordinates or in the sensory input from one leg. Subjects were trained to step over an obstacle with minimal foot clearance without visual information about either the obstacle or their legs during treadmil...
